First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joseph Osei-Owusu known in politics as Joe Wise has expressed his belief that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is on track to secure a victory in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Reflecting on his observations in a recent interview on TV3’s Hot Issues with host Keminni Amanor, Osei-Owusu noted, “Looking at what I’m seeing, NPP will win the 2024 elections.” His confidence stems from witnessing a range of improvements across the country, which he feels have positively impacted the lives of Ghanaians.

“I do travel around the country a lot,” he continued, “and I see the things that people never used to experience, they are experiencing them.”

He pointed to these developments as tangible evidence of the government’s progress, suggesting that the administration’s efforts are yielding visible results for citizens nationwide.

However, Osei-Owusu also took the opportunity to voice his disappointment with recent political dynamics in Parliament, emphasizing how current debates and priorities appear to stray from core legislative responsibilities.

“It’s a reflection of the politics of today,” he observed, “of the things that we place emphasis on, of things that, in my view, should be in the background, of things that do not add any value to our work as MPs.”

The Deputy Speaker lamented what he described as a shift from constructive discussions toward issues he believes should be handled privately among leadership, rather than in public parliamentary debate. “I’m disappointed.

“I think that these are not the things that should take the front stage when we are discussing Parliament,” he stated, reminiscing about a time when matters were resolved behind closed doors in previous parliamentary terms.
