According to a report by Ghanaweb, Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western Region are in a state of mourning following the demise of Mr. Anthony Evans Amoah, a former Member of Parliament for the Mpohor Constituency. He passed away at the age of 72 on Saturday, November 2, 2024, after a brief illness, leaving many in disbelief.
Anthony Evans Amoah was a distinguished member of the NPP and a revered leader within the Western Region. He was elected as the Member of Parliament for the Wassa East Constituency in 2004, securing 19,635 votes, which accounted for 48.2 percent of the total votes cast. His tenure in Parliament was characterized by a strong commitment to serving his constituents and addressing their concerns.
Following his election, President John Agyekum Kufuor appointed Amoah as the Minister for the Western Region. During his tenure, he was instrumental in the completion of the Essipong Sports Stadium, a facility constructed to host the African Cup of Nations in 2008. This initiative represented a significant advancement for the region and underscored his dedication to improving local infrastructure.
Mr. Amoah is survived by five children, and his absence is profoundly felt among the residents of Mpohor and the NPP community. Many individuals who benefited from his service and dedication express their sorrow at his passing, particularly as the party gears up for the upcoming December 2024 elections.
