We may all resort to vote buying if electorates prioritise such over development – Asiedu Nketiah

Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, says the opposition party may be compelled to consider offering incentives to voters if they continue to prioritise personal gain over development.

According to him, the incumbent government has frequently relied on undemocratic methods to maintain political power.

He cautions voters against succumbing to inducements in the upcoming elections.

“We can forfeit the road we want to build from Akomadan Afrancho to Kyiraa and invest part of the money into buying cutlasses, maggie cube and chicken for your votes. I believe we will have enough to buy the vote of the people here and beyond. If a party will ensure development and the other decides to neglect you and use the money to buy your votes, then we will all have to learn from them,” he said.

Addressing party supporters at Akomadan Afrancho as part of the three-day tour of the Ashanti Region, the Chairman believes national development may suffer if inducement and blinded loyalty to political parties continue to take centre stage in the country’s politics.

“If a politician gets to know that you are very loyal, he decides to neglect you. They will rather develop areas they can’t win and take their loyalists for granted,” he added.

The Chairman of the opposition NDC took the first day of the tour to eight communities in the Offinso North and South constituencies.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah made stops at Afigya Kwabre North and Afigya Kwabre South where the team met the electorate in smaller groups.

In all the areas visited, the party Chair touted the NDCs achievements while in power, emphasising the need for a return.

Constituents visited were emphatic of the need for a peaceful and transparent election.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah believes a peaceful election is largely dependent on the government.

“If you compare the last eight years to the Atta Mills and Mahama tenure, you will realise the country is in anarchy. People are able to kill military men and walk away. When their party people commit a crime they rather arrest the innocent citizen”, he added.

The tour is expected to touch base in other communities, explaining the NDC manifesto and track record.
