The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has said that developing major railways in the country will help accelerate the transformation the country needs.

In view of this, he has outlined bold plans to focus on and develop three major railway lines in the country to boost the country’s transformation when he is elected President.

“One of my priorities in terms of infrastructure development is railway development,” Dr. Bawumia told stakeholders of the Atwima Mponua Constituency at the start of his Ashanti Regional tour on Monday, November 4, 2024.

“It is very important for our country because if we are blessed with bauxite and we don’t have enough railway lines, it is problematic. When we develop our railways, it will really help our country,” he said.

“There are three major railway lines that I want to focus on. From Tema in Greater Accra to Kumasi; and then from Kumasi to Takoradi; and then from Awaasi, through Nyinahin to Eduade. We are going to do that railway for you,” Dr. Bawumia said, adding that the short distance line from Adum to Akaase is another railway line his government will fix.

Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of focusing on railway lines, even though many kilometers of roads are being constructed.

“We are constructing roads and we are not done yet, but I will also focus on railways because that is where the transformation is going to come from.”

“The railway is very important for our country. We will take it from Accra, through Kumasi to the north. And we will explore bauxite, iron ore, and all the deposits. This is what will bring the needed transformation.”
