The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, has expressed concern over the recent impasse between the NPP and the NDC caucuses regarding the struggle for Majority status in Parliament.

Speaking in an interview with the media on Friday, November 1, 2024, Appiah-Kubi expressed his displeasure with the behavior of parliamentarians in the House, describing it as ‘childish antics.’

According to him, lawmakers should embody values that reflect the image and integrity of the country, rather than engage in scuffles and brawls over trivial issues.

“Sometimes, when we get involved in these childish antics, it doesn’t inspire me at all. What is important is that we are all in an enterprise called Ghana and therefore, all our attitude, performance, and behavior must be situated in what is good for Ghana.

“Why will we get into this confusion for us to expect institutions like the Peace Council, and Council of State to invite us into discussions when two of us can solve our problems?” Appiah-Kubi said.

Appiah-Kubi asserted that the actions of the lawmakers create the impression that they are more loyal to their respective political parties than to their roles as statesmen.

He, therefore, issued a stern warning to his fellow parliamentarians to avoid unbefitting behaviors that could subject them to ridicule and criticism from the public.

“Indeed, we need to grow a class of statesmen more than a class of partisan politicians. Let the politicians also be warned that as much as they attack each other unnecessarily, we open ourselves to attacks from the public,” he said.

The lawmaker’s criticism of his colleagues comes in the wake of the controversial declaration of four seats as vacant by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
