Businessman Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the famous ambulance trial of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has been appointed the NDC’s ‘agent supervisor’ for the 2024 election ballot printing.

Richard Jakpa, a former military officer, will be responsible for supervising the party’s agents who will be posted to the printing houses contracted by the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) to print the ballot papers for the upcoming 2024 general election.

Speaking on his new role in an interview on JoyNews on Friday, November 1, 2024, Jakpa said that his job is to ensure that the National Democratic Congress agents are well prepared for their task, which is to prevent any shady happenings at the printing centres.

“Well, it’s a very daunting task. It’s supervising our various agents that are placed in the various printing houses and then to make sure that they do what is expected of them.

“And then also identifying loopholes in the printing processes, the printing houses and making sure that they don’t print more than what is required for the election and that nothing untoward happens on the blind side of our agents and also NDC thereby compromising the election and the results,” he said.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa were acquitted and discharged by the Court of Appeal after the state accused them of engaging in corrupt activities when the former was Deputy Minister for Finance.

Dr. Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa, who is a representative for Big Sea, were charged with causing a financial loss to the state to the tune of €2.37 million in a deal to purchase 200 ambulances for the country between 2014 and 2016.
