Election 2024: We’re dancing with musicians like 2008

Former flagbearer hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has warned his party against being complacent going into the 2024 general elections.

According to the maverick politician, events of the current campaign season remind him of the 2008 elections, where the party focused on mounting platforms and entertaining themselves while the then-opposition National Democratic Congress led a door-to-door campaign, which eventually won them the election.

“Everything that we are doing here today, I’ve seen before. In 2008, while the NDC was conducting house-to-house campaigning, we were standing on platforms with musicians playing music and dancing, thinking we had already won. But we all saw what happened to us. So I am happy today, but I am not moved by what I am seeing until we have finished the election,” he stated.

Kennedy Agyapong, who was speaking during a campaign stop by the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the Esikado-Ketan Constituency of the Western Region, therefore implored his party to cover its bases going into the December 7 general elections.

The NPP’s 2024 campaign has been blended with the performances of various popular artistes who have mounted some platforms by the party to entertain supporters.

The likes of King Paluta, Eno Barony, Praye, and Wendy Shay have performed on some NPP campaign platforms.

The party’s flagbearer, however, beyond the platforms, has been conducting a retail campaign by engaging electorates and stakeholders directly.

Dr. Bawumia was recently captured on video speaking to some Ghanaians at his campaign call centre.
