Asare to go back on bench? coach Prosper Ogum speaks about his recent performance

Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Ogum has thrown his support behind goalkeeper Frederick Asare amid criticism following a long-range goal conceded in Kotoko’s 2-1 loss to Legon Cities.

The defeat, Kotoko’s first of the season, came as a surprise, with Asare’s positioning on Albert Yeboah’s goal drawing scrutiny from fans and analysts alike.

Asare, who has earned call-ups to Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, was caught off guard when Yeboah struck from outside the penalty area, with the ball finding its way past him before he could react.

However, Ogum defended his shot-stopper’s abilities and dismissed the criticism as misplaced.“I think he is a competent goalkeeper,” Ogum said confidently. “We have good goalkeepers, and it’s just unfortunate that it happened this way.

We lost, but to us, he is a good goalkeeper, and we trust his skills. ”As Kotoko prepares to face Heart of Lions on Sunday, the team will be looking to regroup, with Ogum emphasizing the need to focus on areas requiring improvement.

Currently second in the league standings, Kotoko hopes to quickly bounce back and reassert their dominance in the Ghana Premier League.
