This week on Ballot Briefing, the founder and flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party, Akua Donkor, is dead. The 2024 presidential candidate died at the Ridge Hospital while receiving treatment in Accra on the evening of Monday, October 28, 2024.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama engaged in a back-and-forth with questions to each other. Dr Bawumia had responded to former President John Dramani Mahama’s five questions about Ghana’s economy by posing fifty questions of his own. Mahama criticised Bawumia for avoiding economic issues and emphasised that the election should focus on the economy, urging Bawumia to answer the original five questions directly.

The Supreme Court of Ghana has dismissed Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin’s application to reverse a ruling that blocked his declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant. Bagbin argued that the court overstepped its bounds by suspending his parliamentary decision, which he claimed should not be subject to judicial review. The Chief Justice emphasized the need to address the dispute promptly to avoid leaving constituencies without representation and urged expedited proceedings.
