I’m confident the police will ensure violent-free and peaceful elections

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed his optimism and confidence in the professionalism of the Ghana Police Service in executing their duties to ensure a violence-free and fair general elections in December.

Speaking at the 53rd Cadet Officers’ Graduation Parade at the National Police Training School at Tesano, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Dr. Bawumia praised the police service’s role in ensuring security during elections in the country.

According to him, Ghanaians can be assured of a peaceful 2024 election with the police at the center of election security.

“We, as a nation, have become good at it with the police at the center of our election security taskforce, we are assured of a successful 2024 general election,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia further stated that the police’s neutral, fair, and firm approach to election policing over the years should make every Ghanaian optimistic about a peaceful election in the December polls.

He, however, cautioned the police not to be complacent, as every election comes with its own challenges.

“However, we must not be complacent and rest on our previous achievements for election presents its own nuanced situation. We are, however, confident of the professionalism of the police. The police is always at the center of elections security in Ghana and it is important that officers act responsibly,” he added.

He also said that, “The neutral fair, and firm election policing we have witnessed before should be reasons for optimism. The good conduct of officers during the recent voter registration and exhibition exercises also provides a great blueprint and confidence for the main elections.”
