According to the video shared by CITI FM, residents of Konongo, a small town in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, were left in shock after the decomposed body of a missing teacher was found inside a concrete structure at his rented home.
The teacher, Mr. Kwesi Amankwah, 45, had been reported missing by family members nearly a month ago, and locals had been concerned due to the sudden disappearance of their quiet neighbor.
The discovery was made by the landlord, Mr. Kwadwo Mensah, who had gone to the house after complaints from other tenants about a foul smell coming from Mr. Amankwah’s room.
“Kwesi was a reserved man, and he often kept to himself. It was unusual not to see him around, but I thought he’d just gone away for a few days,” said Mr. Mensah.
However, with the strong odor and no sign of Mr. Amankwah, he decided to inform the local authorities.
When police officers arrived and broke into the room, they were met with an unusual and eerie scene. The body was laid inside a large concrete coffin, covered with plywood, and partially wrapped in black cloth.
Alongside the body, police discovered several jars containing unknown chemicals. Investigators believe these may have been used to slow the decomposition process.
The setup raised suspicions about the possibility of ritual practices or some personal belief Mr. Amankwah held.
Neighbors, though saddened by the discovery, were equally puzzled by it.
“Kwesi was a dedicated teacher at the local school and never seemed troubled,” shared Afia Serwaa, a nearby resident who said she saw him last in December. “He was a quiet man, didn’t have many friends or visitors, and spent most of his time either at school or home,” she added.
Although his life seemed peaceful, some residents recalled seeing him with strange items and books, though they never questioned him directly. One of his colleagues from the school, Mr. Kojo Nyarko, described Mr. Amankwah as calm and passionate about education but added,
“He was always reading, and sometimes he would discuss unusual topics, but no one thought it was serious.”
Assistant Chief Inspector Abena Danquah, who is leading the investigation, stated that the body was carefully placed in the concrete structure, suggesting it may have taken significant time to construct.
“We are examining all aspects of this case, including any possible links to local beliefs or cult practices,” she said.
Mr. Amankwah’s family is heartbroken, as they await more answers from the investigation. His body has been taken to the regional hospital for further examination, while police continue their inquiries.
The case has left the town of Konongo in shock, with neighbors wondering how such a tragic and bizarre event could occur so close to home.
