Enoch Amoako Nsiah, a former security coordinator under the Mahama administration, has expressed concerns over the safety of National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in the Ashanti Region, describing the area as increasingly hostile for party affiliates.
Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, October 29, in Kumasi, Nsiah claimed that being openly recognized as an NDC member in the Ashanti Region poses significant risks.
He alleged that NDC members in the region face intimidation, which he sees as part of a broader issue of political intolerance.
Nsiah urged NDC members to continue publicly affirming their party allegiance, stating that only through visible solidarity can they push for greater political tolerance and inclusivity in the region. He called on both regional and national security agencies to ensure a safer environment for all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
“Being an NDC member in Ashanti Region in itself is a threat, people will insult you, your own family members, it’s a threat to be an NDC member in Ashanti Region. The other aspect of it is that we the Asante NDC people don’t come forward, we’re always hiding.
“It’s time we came forward, that will give us the protection and it’s also because we have not let people understand our history, developmental challenges and our needs. If we do that, the threats will go down and that is exactly what we’re doing now.”
