Representatives from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will meet with officials from the Federation of International Football (FIFA) regarding the implementation of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in Ghana.

According to ghanafa.org, the meeting is scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 1, 2024, to highlight its significance.

The meeting is geared towards examining the country’s readiness to adopt the technology, which includes FIFA’s Implementation Assessment Approval (IAA) necessary for any Member Association (MA).

FIFA’s delegation for the meeting will be led by Inokuchi Takaaki and Michael Bailey, who are experts in VAR and its related operational processes.

Attendees from the GFA will include Alex Kotey, head of Referees and VAR team leader in Ghana; Emmanuel Aglago, VAR instructor and Marian Mensah, head of legal affairs at the GFA.

The initiative to adopt VAR in Ghanaian football is aimed at ensuring more accurate officiating to align with global standards.

An official approval from FIFA will pave the way for the GFA to introduce VAR in the Ghana Premier League, addressing complaints about poor officiating affecting clubs.
