Bawumia shakes Accra markets as traders hail Free SHS

Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, continued his campaign tour of Accra, with a special focus on the city’s bustling markets.

Fresh from a warm reception in the Volta and Oti Regions, Dr. Bawumia turned his attention to some of Accra’s busiest markets, where he was enthusiastically welcomed by traders.

Dr. Bawumia began his market tour at the Tuesday Market in Mamprobi, located in the Ablekuma South Constituency. From there, he moved to the Odododiodio Constituency, engaging traders braving the rain in some of the capital’s most popular markets.

In his characteristic energetic style, Dr. Bawumia visited Makola Market, Okaishie, and Kantamanto Market. At each stop, he was met with cheers and chants of his campaign slogan, “It is possible,” as traders gathered to greet him, many dancing and embracing him as a show of support.

Many traders interviewed highlighted the NPP government’s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which they credited with allowing them to educate their children. This, they said, is a primary reason for their continued support for Dr. Bawumia and the NPP.

“We used to sell family heirlooms just to send one or two children to school, but with the NPP, that struggle is over—now, everyone goes to school for free. We want this to continue, so it’s Bawumia all the way,” shared one trader at Mamprobi’s Tuesday Market.

Another trader in Okaishie expressed similar sentiments: “It’s Bawumia and the NPP all the way. Two of my children couldn’t go to secondary school because I couldn’t afford it, even though they were brilliant students. But the two younger ones have gone to secondary school for free, and one is now at university.”

Traders across the markets echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of the Free SHS policy to Ghanaians. Many also praised Dr. Bawumia for his hard work as Vice President, voicing their belief that he deserves the opportunity to serve as President and bring his vision to life.

Throughout his tour, Dr. Bawumia took time to engage with as many traders as he could, further solidifying his support among Accra’s market communities.
