UTAG suspends nationwide strike against illegal mining

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has announced the suspension of its nationwide strike, which was initiated on October 10, 2024, to protest against illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as “galamsey.”

The strike aimed to pressure the government to ban mining and prospecting for minerals in forest reserves, farms, and water bodies, as well as to raise awareness of the devastating environmental impact of such activities.
