Communications Team Member of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Dr Ekua Amoakoh has urged the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to use legitimate ways to get the majority seats in parliament instead of backdoor tactics.

During a discussion on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Dr Ekua Amoakoh argued that Article 97 (g) (h) of the constitution was not made to force people to be disenfranchised but to bring order.

“There are legitimate ways to get a Majority in Parliament. It’s not by accosting or trying to usurp what the spirit of the constitution works at that time. I don’t think that part of the constitution will be used to disenfranchise people who have voted for their parliamentary candidate to be in parliament.” She said

According to Dr. Amoakoh, the NDC’ is seeking to quash all strongholds of the NPP, emphasizing that the NDC will not win over these seats.

“Why are they eager to take these illegitimate seats, it doesn’t change anything”. She quizzed.

Although the Supreme Court has suspended the ruling of the Speaker of Parliament to declare some seats vacant, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has affirmed its commitment to safeguarding its newly declared Majority status in Parliament.

The leader of the NDC Caucus, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has vowed that his party would not relinquish its newly attained position.

Dr Forson stated during a press conference on Sunday, October 20, that the NDC is now the Majority caucus in Parliament, as per the legislative body’s Standing Orders.

He stated that the Caucus would “jealously protect” this position and oppose any efforts to weaken it.
