I haven’t received a pesewa since registering with GHAMRO

Legendary Ghanaian artiste Atongo Zimba has revealed that he has not received any royalties from the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) since registering with them.

In an interview on 3 Music TV, the “No Beer in Heaven” hitmaker stated that despite beginning his career in 1994 and registering with GHAMRO, he has yet to receive a single pesewa from the music union.

Atongo explained that, unlike GHAMRO, he collaborates with PRS, an international music organisation that compensates him quarterly for his contributions.

“With GHAMRO, I haven’t received even a pesewa since registering my music, but PRS sends me my earnings along with a statement and all necessary documentation every three months,” he said.

He urged music lovers to be more supportive of Ghanaian musicians.

“We need to support our musicians, regardless of our personal preferences. If you don’t like a particular artiste, there’s no need to condemn them. Criticism like that frustrates musicians in Ghana,” he added.

Atongo Zimba, a Ghanaian artiste who began his career in the late 1990s, is known for songs such as “No Beer in Heaven”, among others.

His work has influenced many other musicians, including Wendy Shay, who has a rendition of his song titled,”No Boyfriend.”
