Bawumia’s Latest Campaign Promise Has Sparked Social Media Storm

The die is cast, and the stage is set as the various political parties and independent presidential candidates gear up for a showdown on December 7.

To position themselves and their political parties as the most viable option for Ghanaians, political actors are crisscrossing the country to canvas for votes. They have been making promises to sway voters off their feet.

In the latest development, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President and flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has promised to build a modern market in each of the districts across the country if he secures the mandate of the people to form the next government.

In a video shared by Accra-based TV3, the Vice President was speaking to a group of NPP supporters when he made the promise.

The One District, One Modern Market, according to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will help provide an enabling environment for traders thereby improving their standards of living.

The promise has triggered massive reactions from Ghanaians. A section of those who stormed the comments section expressed doubt about the feasibility of the promise. They have mentioned many unfulfilled promises of the current administration, suggesting that this is one of them.

Others have also urged Bawumia to start implementing the policy as he is already in government.

“One day, one lie, he will soon promise our traditional priest of”one priest, one shrine.”

“King of lies, Plz arrest the dollar for us”.

With just two months to the polls, it remains to be seen how Bawumia will navigate the political landscape to position himself as the best candidate to transform the economy.
