Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was in the Volta Region to campaign
The Vice President and Flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, continued his irrepressible momentum on day one of his Volta Regional tour on Sunday.
Bawumia has so far toured over 200 constituencies in his latest constituency-focused round of campaigns, and his entry into the Volta Region marks his 13th region so far, as December’s election approaches.
The NPP Flagbearer began his Volta Regional tour in Hohoe, where the NPP holds its only parliamentary seat in the Volta Region, with Minister for Railways Peter Amewu as the MP.
Right from his entry into the town and throughout his activities, Dr. Bawumia was well received by enthusiastic supporters, culminating in a massive rally, dubbed Community Connect, to end his tour of the constituency.
If Hohoe was massive, then Kpando was on fire. Not even the heavy downpour could deter people from coming out.
First, Dr. Bawumia and his entourage met with traditional rulers and other stakeholders of Kpando, including Imams and the Clergy, at a time when the rains were falling heavily.
Despite that, a mammoth crowd gathered, waiting for the arrival of Dr. Bawumia for the constituency’s Community Connect.
The turnout in Kpando was indeed massive, leading the Paramount Chief of the area, Togbe Gabusu, to remark that Dr. Bawumia’s presence in the town had “painted the town red, white, and blue.”
The Volta Region has been labeled the “world bank” of the opposition NDC, but in the last three elections, the NPP has made significant gains in every constituency and, ultimately, in the regional tally.
While the NDC has been losing ground, with its percentage tally dwindling after every election, the NPP has been increasing in both numbers and percentages.
Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy presents an interesting dynamic, which the NDC may not be too comfortable with.
Some parts of the Volta Region have a strong Zongo population, and with the growing support for Bawumia in the Zongos, the NPP’s current 14% share is likely to rise.
At both Hohoe and Kpando, the Imams representing the Zongo community expressed gratitude to Dr. Bawumia for his support to them and other Zongo communities.
Dr. Bawumia also visited North Dayi after his engagement in Kpando.
