If I’m That Bad I Don’t Think You Would Have Passed Your Law- Martin Kpebu Slams NPP MP

Lawyer Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner, was engaged in a heated argument with Honourable Vincent Ekow Assafuah, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) on the Key Points, a political program on Accra-based TV3.

The two lawyers were debating the recent power shift in Parliament. The Old Tafo Member of Parliament and Lawyer Martin Kpebu were on different pages concerning the Supreme Court’s ruling which overturned Speaker Alban Kingsford Bagbin’s decision to remove four Members of Parliament for crossing the carpet.

The Members of Parliament, comprising three NPP legislators and one NDC lawmaker, have decided to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections as independent candidates.

The ruling effectively ended the tenure of Agona West Member of Parliament (MP), Cynthia Morrison of the New Patriotic Party (NPP); Amenfi Central MP, Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); Suhum MP, Kwadwo Asante of the NPP, and Fomena MP, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, an independent MP.

But the ruling was overturned by a five-member bench of the apex court in a unanimous decision.

Vincent Ekow Assafuah and Martin Kpebu who he mentioned was his lecturer in law school argued about the way the court handled the matter.

Kpebu faulted the Supreme Court for the ruling, insisting it was not fair and would not augur well for the democracy of the country.

Ekow Assafuah on the other hand challenged his lecturer as he tried to explain what the laws of the country say.

At the peak of the argument, Lawyer Martin Kpebu told his opponent that if he was not well versed in the laws, he could not have taught him to pass his examination in law school.
