I’m willing to work with NDC

On the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket, Peter Kwakye-Ackah is the current Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central in the Western North Region.

But following an internal party disagreement in the constituency, he has gone ahead to file to contest the 2024 Parliamentary Election as an independent candidate after the NDC nominated Joana Gyan Cudjoe as their parliamentary candidate.

Due to a pending lawsuit before the High Court in Sekondi, the Electoral Commission dismissed Joana Gyan Cudjoe as a parliamentary candidate, it was revealed on Wednesday, October 16.

Commenting the new scenario, Mr Kwakye-Ackah underlined his desire to engage with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the December general elections.

Now running as an independent candidate, Kwakye-Ackah argues that despite the disqualification of Cudjoe, he remains ready to working with the NDC to build a united front.

In a radio interview with Accra-based Joy FM. Mr Kwakye-Ackah stated, “I feel we can collaborate. There is no need to complicate this situation further. “Sometimes things happen for good.”

“I have filed as an independent, but I could stand in as the NDC’s candidate. I think it went well for the NDC. Sometimes we need to take some decisions and if this lady, Joan Gyan, has been disqualified that means that the party should be grateful that I am a party member, I am the sitting member of Parliament for the party and I filed as an independent so what is the problem? We should all come together and in case I win I am still a member of the party,” he said, highlighting the significance of cooperation and unity.

Joana Gyan Cudjoe was disqualified as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central after filing a petition with the EC, citing a pending order of interlocutory injunction that prevents her from being acknowledged as such.
