Manaf Calls For Calm In Mamobi

The damaged office of Alhaji Manaf. INSET: Alhaji Manaf

A former parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Ayawaso North Constituency in Accra, Alhaji Manaf Mohammed, has called for calm following last Sunday’s security incident.

On October 13, 2024, supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party clashed in Mamobi.

“I urge all parties involved to remain calm and exercise restraint.

“Regrettably, I am not only appealing as a concerned citizen and former candidate but also as a direct victim of the violence. My office, located in the affected area, was vandalised during the chaos, with my glass door smashed,” he stated.

The reported incidents of violence, which allegedly resulted in injuries and damage to properties, he said “are deeply disturbing and have no place in our democratic process. It is crucial that we prioritise peace and stability, allowing the Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.”

To party supporters, he asked that they refrain from further acts of violence or retaliation, but to rather cooperate fully with the police investigation.

Moving forward, he added “it is essential that we reaffirm our commitment to peaceful coexistence, democratic values, and the rule of law. Let us work together to prevent such incidents from recurring and ensure a safe, inclusive, and democratic environment for all.”
