Mahama govt introduced CSE into School curriculum

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reiterated his claim that the Mahama-led administration first introduced Comprehensive Sexual Education (CSE) into Ghana’s basic school curriculum.

Speaking during an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had accepted funding as early as 2011 to develop a CSE manual.

He explained that the plan was to roll out the programme by 2016, during the NDC’s administration.

NAPO further claimed that the initiative was supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and driven by the Ministries of Health and Education. According to him, the NPP inherited this programme when they came into office.

His comments follow earlier controversial remarks made at the Bantama Big Walk, organized by the NPP in the Ashanti Region, where he accused the NDC of introducing LGBTQ+ topics into the basic school curriculum before leaving office.

The remarks sparked widespread discussion and debate over the inclusion of CSE in Ghana’s education system.

“In fact, the amended Basic School Curriculum the Director General of the Ghana Education Service as at the time Jacob Kor signed and published acknowledged they had finally inculcated the CSE into the curriculum after receiving payment. I have all the documents and evidence here which I can show to you.

“After completing the curriculum, they lost power to the NPP. They had already gone to the north with an NGO and nuns to teach how the same sexual activities can be done in schools,” NAPO alleged.
