Court grants Salifu Amoako GH¢50k bail

An Accra High Court has granted bail to Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, the parents of Elrad Amoako, whose actions resulted in the crash that claimed two lives at East Legon.

The accident which occurred on October 12 led to the deaths of two people.

According to a police statement, Elrad, while driving a Jaguar SUV (GN 7801-20), crashed into a 4×4 Acura vehicle (GR 2542-23) driven by Joseph Ackah with four occupants.

The parents of the suspect driver were arrested by the police on Tuesday, October 15, and put before the court on Wednesday, October 16.

They have been charged with permitting an unlicensed person to drive.

According to the facts of the case presented by the prosecution, the two admitted during interrogation that they allowed their child, who is the suspect in the case, to drive to the gym and to some other places.

The prosecution, however, revealed in court that the keys to the Jaguar car which belongs to Mouha Amoako, mother of the suspect, were given to the Elrad by the third accused person, Linda Bempah.

Linda Bempah is described by the prosecution as a sales assistant at Lilo Stitches which belongs to the brother of the suspect.

In court on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, lawyers for the accused prayed to the court to grant them bail as they have fixed places of abode, gainfully employed, known in society and will make themselves available for trial.

They further argued that the accused had no intentions to commit another offence while on bail, nor interfere with investigations.

They further urged the court to consider the fact that the charge levelled against the accused was a misdemeanour.

Though the prosecution did not oppose the bail application, it asked for stringent bail conditions.

The judge after considering the arguments, granted bail to the accused persons to the tune of GH¢50,000 each.
