2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Kwesi Appiah reacts after Sudan’s victory over Ghana

Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has characterized Ghana’s recent defeat to his team in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers as unfortunate.

The Falcons of Jediane secured a 2-0 victory over the Black Stars on Tuesday afternoon at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi, Libya, during the fourth round of the qualification series.

In his post-match remarks, Appiah, a former coach of the Ghanaian national team, expressed sympathy for his homeland, noting the harsh reality of competition where only one team can progress. “It’s unfortunate for Ghana.

Ghana has a good team, but it’s unfortunate that only one of us can go through,” Appiah stated. Despite the defeat, Appiah found solace in the joy brought to the Sudanese supporters: “I’m happy we’ve been able to put a smile on Sudanese faces.

”The result leaves Ghana languishing in third place in Group F, with just two points from four matches, putting them on the brink of missing out on AFCON qualification for the first time in 20 years.

The Black Stars will aim to regroup and secure vital points in their upcoming fixtures during the November international break against Niger and Angola.
