According to the Ghana Police Service, an investigation into the deadly car accident that happened at East Legon in Accra on Saturday, October 12, 2024, has begun. The driver of one of the involved vehicles was identified, and other early claims of the accident were verified in the police statement released on Monday, October 14, 2024.

“An accident that happened on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at East Legon in Accra that resulted in the deaths of two people has been investigated by the Ghana Police Service. According to a preliminary police inquiry, on Dzanie Ashie Street at East Legon, the suspect driver, Salifu Amoako, crashed his car into another car. According to the statement, both cars caught fire and were completely destroyed by the flames.

One of the surviving victims has been released from the hospital, “while the bodies of the deceased victims have been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy,” according to the police, while the suspect driver and the other surviving victims continue to receive medical attention. Two people lost their lives in the disaster, as seen in CCTV footage from the Saturday, October 12, 2024, incident.

In the video that was circulated online, a fast-moving car was nearing a crosswalk on a major thoroughfare when it collided with an oncoming car. Three more people, the drivers of the Acura and Jaguar cars, are reportedly fighting for their lives after suffering injuries of varying degrees.

In an interview with Adom FM, Assistant Division Officer (ADO) Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service’s (GNFS) Public Affairs Department verified the occurrence. According to ADO Nartey, the deceased were inside the Acura car. He claims that early investigations have shown that speeding was the cause of the

ADO Nartey went on to say that when one of the cars struck a wooden electrical pole, the cables fell off and are said to have ignited the fire. Previous reports, prior to the police statement, had named the suspect driver as the 16-year-old son of Bishop Salifu Amoako, the founder and head of Alive Chapel International.
