On Monday, October 14, 2024, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, destooled the Queen Mother of Denyase Traditional Area, Nana Adutwiwaa Bonin III.

The Asantehene, in the course of delivering his judgement, disclosed the difficulty he had in removing the queen mother because of his fondness for her.

He, however, indicated that he had no choice but to remove Nana Bonin III because she dishonoured the Great Oath to Asantehene, which can only be punished with one losing her stool.

Before delivering his judgement, the Asantehene ordered that an ancient gun named Agyaponmaa be brought to him, which he used to demonstrate the sacrifices people have made for the sake of the Asante Kingdom.

He said that the gun had the bead of the wife of an Asantehene, who was sacrificed by her husband so that the kingdom would win a war.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said that the said Asantehene was charged to sacrifice Agyaponmaa, his beloved and dear wife, to emerge victorious in a great war that confronted the Asante Kingdom.

“He (the Asantehene) was about to go to war and he was directed to sacrifice his wife for victory and hang her bead around a gun.

“She was his beloved wife. He loved her dearly above all but then he sacrificed her,” he said in Twi while wielding the Agyaponmaa.

The Agyaponmaa – the gun – still had the bead of the sacrificed wife of the former Asantehene around it.
