Netizens React Heavily As Video Of Street Hawkers Selling Galamsey Sachet Water Hits Online [VIDEO]

Illegal mining has been a national menace recently as the country is suffering tremendously from its effect. This act locally known as “Galamsey” has caused mass destruction of prominent water bodies in the country leaving it unfit for any domestic purpose. Some communities currently are facing water crisis due to the inability of the Ghana Water Company to treat these water bodies for adequate supply to citizens. Lands, vegetations, aquatic and terrestrial life has also been destroyed leaving the natural ecosystem of these environment incomplete. Series of protests and demonstrations were held by concerned citizens to draw government’s attention and also to device strategies to help curb the rising menace.

Recently, the government issued a press release which indicated measures employed to combat illegal mining. Men from the Ghana Armed Forces have been deployed to carry out a massive clean-up exercise at the mining sites. Videos and reports of the force arresting culprits, confiscating and burning of illegal mining equipment has surfaced online which indicates a progression in fighting the menace.
In a viral video online is a group of hawkers who are indirectly protesting for a positive change on illegal mining. These hawkers were seen carrying and selling sachet waters made from heavily polluted water bodies due to galamsey. This act is an attempt to create awareness to the general public on what our drinking sachet waters may look like if illegal mining is not curbed.
