“I Would Have Been Jailed for Capital Bank Collapse, But Otabil Walks Free” – Owusu-Bempah

Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International, recently claimed that if he had been in the position of Pastor Dr. Mensa Otabil, he would have been jailed for his involvement in the collapse of Capital Bank as reported by Ghana Web on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

Speaking during a sermon on Sunday, October 13, 2024, Rev. Owusu-Bempah reflected on the controversy surrounding the bank’s failure, which was linked to the mismanagement of funds under Otabil’s supervision.

Rev. Owusu-Bempah remarked that his critics, particularly in powerful circles, would have treated him differently if he had been at the center of the scandal.

“If the issues with the bank had involved me, Owusu-Bempah, I would have been in Nsawam Prison by now. But because it is him, he is walking around freely,” he stated, adding that his reputation as a prophet often attracts hostility despite his accurate predictions.

The preacher emphasized that he and others prayed for Dr. Otabil during the Capital Bank crisis, recognizing that leaders, including those in religious roles, can make mistakes.

“We supported him in prayer because he is human and can make mistakes. It could also happen to me, so I saw no need to condemn him.”

Owusu-Bempah also addressed comments made by Dr. Otabil, who had recently expressed the belief that God does not appoint leaders for nations.

In response, Owusu-Bempah pointed to biblical examples of God choosing leaders, arguing that divine selection still occurs today.

“The fact that some leaders, including men of God, make mistakes does not mean that God does not choose leaders,” he explained.

While expressing respect for Dr. Otabil as a senior figure in Ghanaian Christianity, Rev. Owusu-Bempah maintained that prophets and teachers of the gospel have distinct roles, both of which are divinely appointed.

“The same God who called you and gave you the teaching anointing is the same God who calls prophets and gives us the prophetic anointing to choose,” he concluded.
