‘Artistes need to eat too’ – Bisa Kdei on performing for political parties

Ghanaian highlife artiste Bisa Kdei has expressed willingness to perform at political rallies if paid well.

In an interview with TV3, the “Odo Carpenter” hitmaker emphasised that as an artiste, he needs to earn a living and would not turn down opportunities from politicians.

He said performing for a political party is purely a business decision and does not indicate his support for any party.

“People should understand that we are artistes too, we have to eat. The fact that somebody calls you to come on stage and perform does not mean you should support the party or whatever,” he stated.

As the nation gears up for its general elections on December 7, 2024, the topic of creatives aligning with political parties has sparked significant discussion online, with some industry figures openly declaring their political affiliations.

While some have cautioned against the development, fearing it could jeopardise one’s career, others view it differently, stating that their participation is strictly business.
