Malik Basintale accuses NPP of fertilizer smuggling in Upper East Region

Deputy National Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale

The Deputy National Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale, has accused members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being involved in smuggling fertilizers from the Upper East Region to neighbouring countries like Burkina Faso and Togo.

According to Basintale, this illegal operation has severely hampered the efforts of local farmers, leading to poor agricultural performance in the region and worsening the economic struggles of farming communities.

Speaking at a rally in Binduri, Upper East Region, Basintale alleged that a well-organized network of NPP officials is behind the smuggling of essential agricultural resources out of the country.

He accused the Member of Parliament for Binduri and Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Abdulai Abanga, as a key player in the alleged scheme.

Malik Basintale vowed that if the NDC wins the upcoming December elections, those involved would face prosecution.

“All the fertilizer given to them has been smuggled to Burkina Faso. I swear, when the NDC comes to power, they will go to jail. If we don’t jail them, the people of Ghana and Binduri will not be happy with us,” he declared.
