Election 2024: LPG will appoint more women base on competence and experience

By Bertha Badu-Agyei

Accra, October 14, GNA – Madam Elizabeth Sam, running-mate of the Liberal Party Ghana (LPG), says more women will be appointed to positions if the Party win power in the December elections.

“My party is committed to the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act and will appoint more women to positions of trust to run the affairs of this country to the right direction.”

She explained that experience and competence of work would be the key criteria in appointing women to positions and not based on academic qualifications alone.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA Gender-desk, she described her nomination as the running-mate as the LPGs commitment to women empowerment and a party to be trusted to reserve more than 30 percent positions to women.

She appealed to Ghanaians to give the LPG a chance come December, 7 to change the fortunes of Ghana because it had cutting-edge policies to improve the wellbeing of Ghanaians especially the youth and children.

“We have human centred policies such as paying child support and unemployment benefits to address the issue of children begging on the streets and youth unemployment,” she stated.

Ms Sam is a businesswoman and a philanthropist who runs a non-governmental organization focused on aged women in society to protect them from being tagged as witches and the resultant abuse.

Having worked as a philanthropist helping women and children in vulnerable conditions, she got attracted to the human centred policies of the LPG and decided to help in the mobilization of the grassroots support base.

She became the national women’s organizer and the chairperson of the Liberal Women’s Network of the LPG, mobilizing women support for the LPG as well as leading philanthropic activities of the party until 2020 when she was nominated as the running mate to the presidential candidate.

Even though she was not out doored as the running mate for the 2020 elections she was documented by the Electoral Commission (EC) and played significant role in the campaign activities of the party to wrestle power from the NPP.

The running mate was of the view that the 2024 elections was a crucial one to determine the direction of Ghana and therefore called on the electorate to break the NPP, NDC dominance and vote for LPG for rapid development.
