Why Senyo Hosi is calling for Kan Dapaah’s resignation

Senyo Hosi, a key member of the Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey, has called for the resignation of Albert Kan-Dapaah, the Minister for National Security, over the ongoing illegal mining crisis, popularly known as galamsey.

Hosi criticized the minister for his failure to prevent the transportation of heavy equipment to galamsey sites, which has contributed to the environmental destruction caused by illegal mining activities.

In an interview on TV3, Hosi expressed disbelief that such large machinery could reach illegal mining sites without being detected.

“How do the excavators get there? Do they fly? And the mercury, how does it arrive at these sites? It’s ridiculous that the National Security Minister claims ignorance of the real people behind galamsey. He should resign,” 3news.com quoted him as saying.

Hosi further alleged that the government is turning a blind eye to the issue, suggesting that authorities are aware of the powerful forces behind these illegal operations.

He urged Kan-Dapaah to take decisive action by identifying and prosecuting the financiers of the illicit activity.

“If you’re serious about addressing this, go after the financiers. You know who they are,” Hosi stated, calling on the minister to address the root of the problem.
