Asante Kotoko is teaming up with a Ghanaian academy based in the USA to form the “Ghana Select Team” to take on Major League Soccer (MLS) side DC United on Saturday night, October 12, 2024, at the state-of-the-art Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
The technical staff of Asante Kotoko carefully selected players for this special team before their departure from Ghana. This initiative aims to showcase emerging talent from the academy while offering Kotoko players a unique opportunity to engage with football in the United States.
The Ghana Select Team is expected to feature a blend of experienced Kotoko players alongside promising talents from the academy, forming a well-rounded squad ready to challenge DC United.
The match will serve not only as a test for the players but also as a celebration of Ghanaian football, highlighting the skills and passion the country is renowned for.
This annual ceremonial match is organized by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and is part of the Ghana Week DC 2024 festivities, which take place from October 7-12, 2024.
The encounter between these two historic teams aims to enhance the celebration of Ghanaian culture in Washington, D.C.However, on Thursday, the Porcupine Warriors announced their withdrawal from the scheduled Cup in Washington, D.C. The club’s Interim Management Committee stated that the decision was due to the inability to secure visas for the players.
