You Have No Power Over Asante Bediatuo’s Illness

An elderly Ghanaian woman, about 60 to 70 years, has issued a serious warning to Hopeson Adorye, a staunch political activist, for some of his utterances, which the woman perceived as controversial and attributed to Asante Bediatuo, the brother of President Akufo-Addo. In a video that has been captured, the passionate woman advised Adorye to be cautious with his words in public over Bediatuo’s health.

This comes after Hopeson Adorye earlier claimed a supposed curse he placed on Asante Bediatuo had taken effect, attributing the man’s illness to his supposed powers. The old woman would, however, take no of it. She called on Adorye to stop talking about Bediatuo’s condition as if it were something so out of the ordinary or fatal. According to her, Bediatuo is only sick, just like every other human being, and is receiving the needed care and treatment. She indicated that matters of life and death are in the hands of God, and no one, let alone Adorye, has the diabolic ability to cause sickness or death.

As the elder woman said in the video, “Hopeson Adorye and Captain Smart, listen attentively. Asante Bediatuo is sick, just like everybody else. He’s not going to die because of what you’re saying. You don’t have any power to make someone sick or kill anyone. Pray that when you fall sick, there will be someone to care for you, too.”

Her message seemed to have struck a chord with many Ghanaians who watched the video. Some agreed with her, congratulating her for what they described as words of wisdom and humanity. They condemned the ongoing public discourse surrounding Bediatuo’s illness, mainly coming from those who appear to wish him ill because of his close association with President Akufo-Addo.

Not everyone, however, shared the woman’s sentiments. Some critics insinuated that Asante Bediatuo’s illness is a form of karma for what they perceive as corruption in Akufo-Addo’s administration; the president’s family has been milking the nation’s resources, and Bediatuo’s health challenges should be considered the natural consequences of their actions.

The video has kept discussions alive in Ghana, highlighting the tension between political affiliations and personal issues like health, as many call for a more humanitarian approach to the discussion.
