Ghanaian Man in US Saves Over GH¢120k Monthly as Truck Driver, Plans to Return Home

A Ghanaian man, popularly known as Drizzle, has shared his great financial journey working as a heavy transport driver in the US. In an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa, Drizzle revealed that he earns a weekly salary of $3,000 (approximately GH¢47,804) and manages to save up to $8,000 (GH¢127,479) consistently, thanks to his disciplined lifestyle.

According to YEN, Drizzle, who has lived in the U.S. for six years, and being single with no dependents has enabled him to maximize his savings. He explained that earnings in the trucking industry vary depending on experience, with more seasoned drivers earning higher wages. New drivers, he said, commonly start with lower pay but can increase their pay over time as they accumulate years of experience.

In spite of his financial success, Drizzle expressed his intention to return to Ghana soon. “The U.S. has helped me, but we are only here to make money, not to stay forever,” he said. Drizzle revealed that he left a business behind in Ghana when he moved abroad but presently feels prepared to return and settle in his home country.

His personal journey hasn’t been without challenges. Drizzle shared his experience of being evicted from his home by his ex, a Liberian woman, during the winter, which prompted their possible separation.

Drizzle’s story echoes the encounters of other Ghanaians in the U.S. who have found success in trucking. For instance, David Appertey, another Ghanaian truck owner, revealed that he made $12,500 in only three days by hauling pallets between states. The trucking industry, Appertey said, offers lucrative opportunities for those willing to invest time and effort.

As Drizzle continues to save toward his goals, he remains hopeful that his time in the U.S. will soon lead to a comfortable life back in Ghana.
