Carry all stakeholders along the electoral process – Political Analyst urges EC

Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast and political analyst, has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana to ensure full participation of all key stakeholders, including minority parties, in the upcoming elections.

Speaking on Ghana Tonight with Alfred Ocansey on October 10, Dr. Otchere emphasized the importance of transparency in every aspect of the election process. He advised that the EC should involve relevant parties at each step to build public trust and confidence.

He further stressed the need for transparency, particularly in the areas of data collection, result compilation, voter registration, and transfer.

“The other thing that we need to see is to ensure that the process is free and fair. And how does that happen? In areas of collection, compilation of data, registration, voter transfer, supervision of voter registration exercise in certain parts of the country, putting administrative bottlenecks by making the process a bit expensive beyond the reach of the minority parties, so to speak, and all of these things could lead to a sort of exclusion of major stakeholders,” he noted.

Dr. Otchere added that these processes must be carried out transparently to avoid suspicion and ensure acceptance of the election results.
