Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako, a well-known journalist in Ghana, has spoken out against former President John Mahama’s claims about starting the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.
According to the Video on Twitter, Baako, who is the editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, shared his thoughts on a popular radio show called “Kokrokoo” on Peace FM.
He said that Mahama’s statements about starting Free SHS are not true.
Baako explained that if Ghana had waited for Mahama to start Free SHS, it might have taken a very long time.
He used a funny way of saying this, telling listeners they might have had to wait until “Jesus Christ comes” for Mahama to make Free SHS happen.
This shows that Baako thinks Mahama was not serious about making education free when he was president.
The Free SHS programme, which gives free secondary school education to all Ghanaian students, was a big promise made by the current government led by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
It started in September 2017, after Akufo-Addo’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) won the 2016 elections.
Mahama, who was president from 2012 to 2017, has been saying lately that his government started the Free SHS programme.
