2024 Elections: ‘Every Poll Has Placed Him Behind”

Mordecai Quarshie, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ledzokuku, has labeled Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, as an underdog in the 2024 presidential elections as reported by Ghana Web on Friday, October 11, 2024.

Speaking on JoyNews, Quarshie said that although Bawumia’s candidacy has been frequently downplayed by polls, his potential to upset the political landscape should not be underestimated.

“It is important to understand that in the presidential race, our candidate is the underdog. Every poll has placed him behind, but we are working hard to catch up and overtake,” Quarshie stated.

He emphasized that the NPP is diligently working to close the gap as they gear up for the election.

Quarshie also highlighted how Dr. Bawumia has reshaped the political narrative, positioning himself as a transformative leader despite being part of the current administration. He noted that Bawumia’s focus on change contrasts with the opposition’s message.

“Normally, the opposition candidate is the one calling for change, but in this situation, Dr. Bawumia is the one representing transformation, while John Dramani Mahama is promising to reset the country to a previous state.”

He stated that the upcoming election is a defining moment for the country, framing it as a choice between moving forward or returning to the past.

“This election is really about the future versus the past. The incumbent party’s candidate is offering bold solutions for the future, while the opposition is focused on revisiting the past,” Quarshie concluded.
