“We Will Be Sacking You With Brown Water Because That’s The Future You Want For My Kids”—Senyo Hosi

According to Adomonline, Senyo Hosi, convener of the One Ghana Movement, has issued a strong call to President Akufo-Addo to take decisive action against illegal mining, also known as galamsey. Hosi expressed frustration over the president’s lack of action, citing concerns about the environmental damage it causes.

In a recent interview on JoyNews’ AM Show, Hosi questioned whether Akufo-Addo genuinely cares about the environment. He referenced the president’s 2016 campaign, where he was often seen drinking Kalyppo, a popular Ghanaian drink, and asked if that was just a publicity stunt. “Nana, you came with Kalyppo… We will be sacking you with brown water because that is the future you want for my children. It is wickedness,” Hosi stated.

Hosi also criticized organized labor’s decision to call off their planned strikes, emphasizing that unity is crucial in the fight against galamsey. He lamented that labor unions don’t seem organized enough to tackle the issue, which affects everyone, not just specific groups.

In contrast, Hosi commended the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) for continuing their strike to protest environmental destruction caused by galamsey. He urged Ghanaians to show solidarity by wearing red to raise awareness about the issue.

The fight against galamsey requires collective action. Hosi’s call to the president and labor unions emphasizes the need for a united front. With Ghana’s environment and natural resources at stake, the government must prioritize effective solutions.

As pressure mounts, President Akufo-Addo’s next moves will be crucial. Will he heed Hosi’s call and take decisive action against galamsey, or will the environmental damage continue unabated? The nation waits with bated breath.
