Anfoeta Gbogame (V/R), Oct. 11, GNA – Dr Peter Hayibor, a Legal Consultant, and native of Anfoega, has presented office materials to the newly inaugurated Anfoeta Traditional Council in the Ho West District of the Volta Region to enhance its operations.
The materials include copies of the Chieftaincy Act, minutes book, guests’ book, letter dispatched and received books and forms, attendance register and visitors’ book.
Dr Hayibor speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said since the Council was just inaugurated, it would need basic things to start with hence the support.
He said since there would be the need for capacity building of the Council, he also provided some copies of lectures he delivered to the Council which would be of great help.
Dr Hayibor said some of the lectures bothered on building of teams, identifying leadership materials in the community and how little projects could be planned and implemented.
He said there was the need to inculcate in the citizens the importance of a traditional council as well as a traditional area as an independent state.
Dr Hayibor urged the chiefs to sit with development associations and the youth to map out a strategy on the future of the Area using their self-help initiatives to lobby as they awaited government’s support.
Togbega Kwasi Drah VII, Paramount Chief of Anfoeta Traditional Area and President of the Council received the items and expressed gratitude to the donor.
Mr. Baafi Nsiah, Chief Registrar at the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs inaugurated the Council on behalf of the Minister, Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng.
Mr. Nsiah said the Chieftaincy institution played an important role in maintaining peace, order and development at the grassroots level.
He said the Ministry had been mandated to develop an effective interface between government, traditional authorities and civil society organizations on matters relating to chieftaincy, religious affairs and good governance.
Mr. Nsiah said in the past, chiefs led their people in war, contest and defense of their territories from external aggression.
“Currently, our chiefs are required to lead their people in war against environmental degradation, poverty reduction and other activities aimed at achieving some level of development at the local level.”
Mr. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, Ho West Member of Parliament (MP) said Parliament was doing its best to restore to traditional leaders the authority they once possessed in decision making.
He called on the citizens to give their traditional leaders the necessary support in making the Council and its future a successful one.
A total of 15 traditional rulers were sworn into office with Togbega Kwasi Drah VII, sworn as the President of the Council.
