The GH¢4.5 million project, funded by the Coastal Development Authority (CODA), formed part of its Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).

The ceremony attracted many people, especially the youth and sports loving enthusiasts who turned up to witness what they described as a game changer for the area and adjoining communities.

The Ga Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ambrose Edward Tsegah, speaking at the ceremony, said the project when completed, would not only serve as a football field but also a place of social interaction where the youth can engage in healthy competitions and be nurtured.

“This astro turf will not only be just a football field but a hub of social interaction, a place where our youth can engage in healthy competitions and be nurtured to national and international standards,” Mr Tsegah stated.

He mentioned that the Ga Central Municipal Assembly was committed to the development of the municipality in every way and urged the people to have confidence in the assembly to do more for them.

“As the MCE of the municipality and the entire staff of the assembly, we shall do what is necessary and important to promote development of the area and, therefore, have confidence in the assembly and the assembly will deliver,’’ he added.

Mr Tsegah indicated that: “In a few weeks to come the municipality will see an astro turf that will change the entire landscape into an admirable place for all social activities,” the MCE assured the people.

Mr Tsegah further emphasised that the project would undoubtedly bring joy and opportunities to the local residents, fostering a sense of community pride and social cohesion, adding that, “as the construction progresses, excitement builds for the positive impact that this astro turf park will have a good impact on the municipality.”

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CODA, Jerry Ahmed Shaibu, urged the contractor to ensure that he employs both skill and the unskilled indigenes to serve as workers for the company in order to enable them get some income for their upkeep.
