‘Your Death Is A Victory For Ghana; Evil Man’

Gabby Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), recently shared a tweet highlighting a protest placard that encapsulates the concerns of many Ghanaians, particularly regarding unemployment. In his tweet, Otchere-Darko pointed out that while Ghanaians appreciate the government’s education initiatives, their top concern remains job creation. He urged the public to scrutinize party manifestos, especially regarding employment solutions.

However, a shocking response came from a user identified as Kirani Afellay, who wished death upon Otchere-Darko, stating, “Your death is a victory for Ghana. And we’re waiting for the day, your family will sadly announce that and we’ll happily jubilate that. Evil man.” The inflammatory comment sparked a heated debate on social media, with many users condemning Afellay’s remarks, while others supported or added to the discussion with similar sentiments.

Some replies, like that from user SHAIBU RAFIU BAKUTOMA, questioned what would happen if Afellay died before Gabby, to which Afellay coldly replied, “The rest will celebrate.” Other commenters, such as Oswell Cole, responded with “Amen,” reflecting further agreement with Afellay’s hostile sentiment. Meanwhile, others like Alive Charlie and No Nonsense decried the extremity of Afellay’s words, with Alive Charlie urging for a more balanced and respectful discourse, stating that no matter the current hardships, wishing death upon someone is unnecessary.

This exchange has drawn attention to the growing frustration in Ghana’s political landscape, where public dissatisfaction often spills into extreme and hateful expressions online.

Gabby Otchere Darko who is a cousin of President Nana Akufo-Addo, has often been accused by many as being the defacto Prime minister of Ghana and allegedly wields a lot of power in deciding some of the major happenings in government business.

Aside Kirani’s reply, others also questioned why after 8 years of being in power, his party and Akufo-Addo have failed to create meaningful jobs for the youth.

Nana Kwame also replied stating that Gabby’s tweet is an indirect way of telling the ‘StopGalamseyNow’ protesters that they (the government) don’t care about their concerns.
