Lyon manager criticises Ernest Nuamah’s individualistic play in win over Rangers

Lyon manager Pierre Sage expressed disappointment with Ghanaian midfielder Ernest Nuamah’s performance during their Europa League clash against Rangers.

Nuamah made a late substitute appearance in the 76th minute, replacing Rayan Cherki, as Lyon secured a comfortable 4-1 victory on Thursday.

Despite the win, Sage expected more from Nuamah, critiquing his individualistic approach during his limited 14 minutes on the pitch.

“I really liked the entry of Said Benrahma, who created situations for himself and played for the team,” Sage commented.

“I expected a little more from Nuamah because there was a difference between his game and his teammates. He was looking for things a little more for himself than for the team.”

The Black Stars winger, who started Lyon’s first Europa League match against Olympiacos, has made five appearances for Lyon this season, starting only two.

Nuamah has been called up for Ghana’s upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan, marking his return to the national team after missing the previous matches against Angola and Niger due to injury.
