KTU SRC donates 100 lecture hall desks to management

The Student Representative Council (SRC) of Koforidua Technical University (KTU) in the Eastern Region has issued a heartfelt appeal to the government and the Ministry of Education, urging them to improve the institution’s infrastructure.

The SRC is calling for the construction of modern lecture halls with appropriate seating to accommodate the university’s rapidly growing student population.

In addition, the SRC advocates for the construction of an SRC complex, new hostels, and the acquisition of a bus, which they believe will significantly enhance both teaching and learning while improving the overall comfort and experience for students.

Emmanuel Akufo, President of the KTU SRC, made this appeal during an interview with Citi News, following the donation of 100 modern lecture hall desks to the university’s management, as well as new uniforms to the KTU Cadet Command

“When we were voted into office, we made it a priority to improve the current infrastructure and service delivery situation in the university for fellow students, so we decided to purchase new lecture hall desks for the institution. This was inspired by the daily challenges witnessed in our lecture halls where many students struggle with inadequate seats which affected their comfort and focus during lectures, their overall learning experience was also affected in a way so as student leaders we decided to address this issue head-on.”

“We believe that providing a conducive and comfortable learning experience is critical to students and again this project was aimed at making that vision a reality, every student deserves a seat in the classroom, one that allows them to fully participate in their education without distractions and discomfort.”

He added, “We are calling on government and relevant stakeholders to come to our aid and put up the SRC complex and also donate a bus and support the procurement of additional modern lecture hall seats to meet the growing needs of the student population. Because education is the foundation of our future and with the right infrastructure in place we can ensure that the Koforidua Technical University remains at the forefront of academic excellence.”

On his part, the Vice Chancellor of the University Professor John Owusu who received the desk together with some board members of the institution expressed gratitude to the student leadership and also called for the government to support the institution.

“This is a step in the right direction and I must commend the entire student leadership for taking this bold step to help address one of the growing challenges affecting quality teaching and learning.

“These desks will go a long way to improve the infrastructure deficit and we call on corporate Ghana, benevolent individuals, groups and associations to also come to the aid of the institution in any way they can to complete efforts of the central government in improving the infrastructure situation at this noble institution.”
