Asante regional minister stop me from fighting “galamsay ” in my own land-Adansihene

The chief clarified that while he is not opposed to mining, he is against its irresponsible practices. He mentioned that he began removing some chiefs involved in these activities within his jurisdiction, but was allegedly asked to halt his actions.T

The paramount chief of the Adansi Traditional Area stated that he received a letter from the Adansi North District Security Council (DISEC), instructing him and other traditional leaders not to interfere in the fight against illegal mining.

According to the chief, the directive originated from the Regional Minister, as indicated in the letter from the Adansi North DISEC.

The paramount chief expressed his displeasure with the directive, voicing concern over the destruction caused by illegal mining in his area. He urged the people to hold the District Chief Executive (DCE) and the Ashanti Regional Minister accountable if the issue persists.

He noted that illegal mining has severely impacted the Adansi area. During the early years of his reign, he started destooling some chiefs involved in the activity, but he recently received a letter from the DCE conveying a message from the Regional Minister that instructed all chiefs to refrain from addressing illegal mining issues and leave it to DISEC.

The chief mentioned that he has the letter on his phone, which states that as the custodian of all lands in his area, the government is directing him not to take action or comment if his land is being damaged, but rather to report to the authorities. He emphasized that he opposes irresponsible mining, not mining itself.

He concluded by saying that if anyone wants to address the issue, they should speak to the DCE and the Regional Minister, as they are the ones preventing him from taking further action against illegal mining.

He made these remarks during the celebration of his 10th anniversary as Adansihene on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
