Alleged Boys Of Chief Imam Forcefully Removed Police Barricade

Youth claiming to be part of Chief Imam’s convoy forcibly pulled down the police barricade at Kawukudi to ease traffic during the ongoing “stop galamsey now” demonstration.

This comes after the convoy of the Chief Imam was allegedly caught up in heavy vehicular traffic which was caused by a section of the road being blocked from usage by officers from the Ghana Police Service.

There is heavy vehicular traffic in parts of the nation’s capital, Accra, partly due to the ongoing “stop galamsey now”, and “free the citizens”, demonstrations.

The three-day demonstration is in its second day and thousands of Ghanaians are on the streets to put pressure on the government to find lasting solutions to galamsey which has caused a lot of damage to the environment.

The is a heavy police presence in town to provide security to the protestors as well as to maintain law and order. As part of measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly protest, some roads have been blocked, a situation which has caused problems for road users.

In a video shared by JoyNews, the youth claiming to belong to the Chief Imam’s convoy clashed with the police as they attempted to remove the barricade to ease traffic.

The tension escalated when the youth refused to retreat despite warnings from the Men in Uniform. The alleged boys of the Chief Imam got their way eventually and they forcefully removed the barricade.

The development has met with varied reactions on various social media platforms.

Meanwhile, the protest has attracted some high-profile personalities. Some top musicians and journalists joined the protest.
