Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Adukwei Mensa has stated that her office is committed to creating a robust and credible 2024 voters register.
Speaking at the IPAC meeting held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, with various political parties, she urged Ghanaians to trust the office of the Electoral Commission.
“It is in our interest to produce credible and robust final voters register…We urge you all and the citizens of Ghana to trust us. We will not fail you; we will not disappoint you and we commit and pledge to conducting and undertaking a free, fair, transparent, and credible election come 2024,” she said.
She also disclosed that her outfit has corrected all errors detected in the provisional 2024 voters register.
According to her, the updated register is more accurate than what was used in the exhibition exercise conducted in August.
“As a commission, we have devoted the last few weeks to correct the discrepancies and you will find that the provisional voters’ register today is different and more accurate than what was exhibited and provided to the parties in August 2024,” she added.
“The discrepancies detected to date have been largely corrected and the register that was presented to parties in early August is very different from what we have today,” Jean Mensa stated.
Jean Mensa, further debunked allegations made by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the commission is attempting to rig and disenfranchise some eligible voters.
She also noted that the Electoral Commission will provide various political parties with a well-furnished provisional voters’ register and the various political will be given a specific time frame to report any discrepancy detected to the EC.
“We urge the parties to see this as a national assignment and not a partisan assignment. Let us put our hands to the plough and collectively clean the provisional voters’ register to ensure it is robust ahead of the 2024 elections,” she noted.
