Fight Against Galamsey Must Be Beyond Political Blame- Prince David Osei

Actor Prince David Osei has urged Ghanaians to look beyond political blame and unite in the fight against illegal mining, known locally as ‘galamsey.’

In an Instagram post on September 29, 2024, Prince David called for a national, non-partisan approach to tackling the environmental devastation caused by galamsey.

He highlighted the growing global concern over the destruction of Ghana’s water bodies, lands, and environment due to illegal mining.

While acknowledging the urgency of the situation, he emphasized that pointing fingers at the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is not a solution.

“The issue of illegal mining is a significant concern that is gaining global attention due to its destructive impact on our water bodies, lands, and the environment. There is a growing consensus that urgent action is needed to combat this menace,” he said.

He added that poverty, greed, corruption, and selfishness are the root causes of galamsey and must be addressed through collective responsibility.

Prince David Osei urged Ghanaians to prioritize the fight against illegal mining over political affiliations and work together to protect the country’s natural resources.

“We must prioritise this issue beyond political interests and work together as a nation to eradicate illegal mining. Let us unite and take decisive action to protect our environment and natural resources,” he indicated.

Prince David Osei’s call comes amid rising public discourse about the impact of galamsey, which has drawn widespread condemnation for its long-term effects on Ghana’s environment and agriculture.
