The Director of Special Projects at the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, also known as Daddy Bosco, has highlighted the profound influence of music on Ghanaian national life, asserting that its impact surpasses that of sports.
Speaking on Asaase Radio on Saturday, September 28, 2024, Daddy Bosco remarked, “If you look at the impact of music on national life, it far surpasses, with all due respect, what sports does.”
During the interview, Daddy Bosco emphasized the vital role played by MUSIGA, which was established in 1975 and continues to advocate for the rights and welfare of musicians in the country.
“Musicians must acknowledge that the Musicians Union of Ghana, established in 1975 and still going strong, is without a doubt the most recognized association of musicians,” he said.
He compared MUSIGA’s importance to other professional associations like the Ghana Medical Association and the Ghana Bar Association, noting that no legitimate doctor or lawyer in Ghana would practice without being a member of these respective organizations.
“If we want our profession to be accorded the respect it deserves so that, in terms of sharing the national pie, we get what is due to us, then musicians will realize that MUSIGA is one tool they can leverage,” Daddy Bosco urged.
He further pointed out the international success of Afrobeats music in transforming perceptions of Nigeria.
“If you look at the brand leverage Nigeria enjoyed just because of Afrobeats, the perception of Nigeria has changed drastically,” he added.
As MUSIGA approaches its 50th anniversary next year, Daddy Bosco called on Ghanaian musicians to rally behind the union as it continues to push for advancements in the country’s creative industry.
